The French Ministry of education announced today that they will be partnering with edX to develop an online learning portal and national MOOC platform in order to expand access to quality education across France. This is the first occurrence of a nationally mandated online learning platform partnership with a leading MOOC provider. The pedigree of edX founding institutions Harvard and MIT no doubt played an important role in this development.
The aim of the national MOOC platform increase access to education and help “transform learning on campuses across France” for French university students. The French education ministry has plans to use edX’s cutting edge technology to power their initiative, but will run the platform independently of edX’s own venture, edx.org.
